The importance of Vitamin C during stressful times

Let’s talk about some antioxidant rich products that can help your skin during stressful times.  The key ingredient is Vitamin C.  It is a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals and because of its antioxidant properties, Vitamin C aids in your skin’s natural regeneration process, which helps your body repair damaged skin cells.

Let me attempt to explain the science without getting very technical: Free radicals are atoms with a missing electron that steal electrons from other atoms that lead to cell damage. Vitamin C is an antioxidant meaning it protects healthy skin cells by “giving” these free radicals an electron, rendering them harmless.

Vitamin C as a topical serum can be used by most skin types with very little to no adverse reactions.  It has a hydrating effect on the skin because it decreases trans-epidermal water loss, allowing skin to better retain moisture.

Vitamin C has many benefits for the skin including the following:

  • It can help to fade pigmentation and brighten your skin complexion, reducing dullness leaving you with a healthy glow.
  • It helps to treat a variety of inflammation that can occur in the skin, minimizing redness and helping to soothe sunburns.
  • It helps fade hyper-pigmentation- including sunspots, age spots, and melasma-that occurs when melanin is overproduced in the skin. It can also help where acne has healed but left an uneven tone to the skin.  Vitamin C application has shown to impede melanin production as well.
  • It is a collagen booster. Vitamin C helps to increase cellular turnover and in turn produce new skin cells that contain healthy levels of collagen and elastin.

Overall, Vitamin C should be a staple in your skincare regimen.  I suggest using Vitamin C serum in the morning.  It should be applied after you have cleansed the skin and before you put on moisturizer or sunscreen.  The Vitamin C options we have:
